Under the direct supervision of the store manager, the 2nd assistant manager is responsible for assisting the manager with day-to-day store operations to achieve optimum sales, profits and customer experiences. The 2nd assistant manager may be responsible for the operation of the store in the manager’s absence including ensuring crew employees complete tasks and assignments. The 2nd assistant manager is a support position with growth opportunities toward becoming a store manager.
Compensation: Starting wage is $23.00 an hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
1. Serves as a shift supervisor in the absence of the store manager and assistant manager.
2. Expected to perform all essential duties of the cashier and deli clerks in addition to supervisory role.
3. Ensures employees complete assigned tasks to company standard and expectation.
4. Ensures employees provide customer service to the levels expected by the company and Management.
5. Ensures employees understand and adhere to company policies and procedures.
6. Frequently supervise up to 7 or more employees.
7. Maintain professional demeanor at all times.
8. Positively communicate (verbal and written) with management and staff.
9. Handle customer complaints to positive resolution.
10. Attend Management meetings.
11. Work in deli to assist with product preparation, ordering, cleaning and all functions necessary for safe and timely production of hot foods.
12. Must be 21 years of age for Beaverbrook, Farmers Loop or Hilltop locations.
13. Is expected to continually learn the roles of the assistant manager and work towards advancement.
14. Willing to respond to store issues at all hours and to work a variety of shifts to ensure schedule coverage.
15. Willingness to serve as a patient trainer for new employees.
16. Demonstrate the ability to be a “Team Player” and to foster a teamwork environment.
17. Be flexible and available to assist at other locations occasionally as the need arrives.
18. Proactively work towards maintaining a clean facility.
19. Direct and follow up with employees on shift to complete tasks and projects.
20. Proactively redirect employees to new priorities as needed and communicate to the manager the need.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Minimum one year retail management experience or the equivalent is required.
3. Valid Alaska Driver’s license preferred.
4. Will be required to complete all company required training.
5. Must be “We Card” Certified for Tobacco Sales.
6. Must have “TAPS “certification to work at Farmer’s loop, Beaverbrook and Hilltop Locations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Possess the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Have the ability to speak effectively in front of groups of employees or customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Demonstrate the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Demonstrate the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standard situations.

The work environment is in a busy retail store setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
