Support Assistant Controllers with general ledger work and support the Inventory GL Accountant in calculating the fuel value produced using variable cost methodology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions.
  • Work effectively with other team members to meet monthly department deadlines.
  • Perform required research in order to assist co-workers and managers with questions and problems concerning the general ledger.
  • Support with month end and year end close procedures which includes extracting, organizing, and manipulating data from a variety of databases. 
  • Accurately prepare and process journal entries into various accounts and provide precise supporting documentation.
  • Complete general ledger account reconciliations with supporting schedules.
  • Assist with recording inter-company lubricant purchases and lubricant purchase reconciliations.
  • Assist in reporting various weekly, monthly and annual reporting to the IRS and Department of Energy.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain and assure proper approvals on balance sheet account reconciliations and file on monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Verify and file receipts of all Journal Entries from the accounting staff on a monthly basis.
  • Travel throughout Alaska for annual year-end inventory observations.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Provide support in the day-to-day accounting functions, which includes temporarily filling in for various accounting positions in the office, including AR, AP, and/or front desk, as needed for vacations, sickness, and/or jury duties, etc.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Three to five years of progressive work experience entering data and reconciling in a computerized accounting system.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • A working knowledge of word processing programs and a familiarity with multiple accounting systems is required.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships, understand the need for a high level of confidentiality and maintain confidentiality, work under minimum supervision and must possess analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as computers, 10-key calculators, printers, copiers, and fax machines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The work environment is in a busy office setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
