JOB SUMMARY
The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for proper performance of electrical and instrumentation work within reasonable time limits and in accordance with established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes. This is a safety sensitive position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to incident and injury free operations with a proven track record in safety and reliability. Must be willing to work outside in inclement weather, in compact and confined spaces, and willing to climb ladders and work at heights.
This is not a rotational job on the North Slope. You must live in the Fairbanks/North Pole area or be willing to relocate at your own expense. Typical work shifts are 12-hour days, 7 days a week, Monday thru Thursday or Tuesday thru Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required; must be willing to work overtime and weekends, as well as be willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
- Perform and document maintenance, calibration, installation, fault diagnosis, and repair of electronic, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and systems.
- Perform and document maintenance, repair, calibrate and fault diagnosis of solid state and microprocessor based control equipment including plant communications equipment, distributed control system (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and burner management systems.
- Maintain DCS system at a high level of operability and reliability.
- Install, maintain, and repair advanced electrical equipment such as variable speed motor drives, UPS /Battery charging systems, and power/control system relays.
- Work with a wide variety of instruments including pH, conductivity, ultrasonic, guided wave radar, mass flow, pressure transducers, RTDs, etc.
- Maintain files, logs and drawings for all designated instrumentation and electrical equipment.
- Maintain instrumentation and electrical spare parts inventory to preserve plant reliability.
- Understand Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Signal Flow Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Panel Drawings, One‐Line Drawings, Loop Sheets, and Wire Lists.
- Perform all duties in manner consistent with environmental, health and safety policies.
- Responsible for the safe and economic use of resources.
- Look for and act on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internally and externally to Petro Star.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must have a proven safety record and be familiar with OSHA requirements for the trade.
- Ability to display a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures.
- 5 years of Journeyman level instrumentation experience.
- Demonstrate proficiency troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining Instrument control systems and their associated components.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the physics of Instrumentation.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of networking, and process technology.
- Ability to configure and implement discrete controllers.
- Ability to calibrate pneumatic, electronic, and digital instrumentation.
- Associates of Science, Certificate of Achievement, Certificate of Accomplishment from an accredited/approved program in the following fields: Electrical and Instrumentation.
- Must be able to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
- Experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining industrial automation systems.
- Hands-on experience with current control strategies and technologies such as PLCs and DCSs.
- Understanding of basics of various communication bus technologies (such as Fieldbus).
- CMMS experience.
