JOB SUMMARY


The Refinery E&I Tech 5 is an hourly position that maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs different types of instrumentation and electrical equipment throughout the refinery. The E&I Tech 5 functions in a team environment and must also be able to work independently, as needed.  Typical shifts are 4 days per week, 11 hours each day, but can vary based on needs; must be willing to work overtime, as well as be willing to be on-call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies. This is a safety sensitive position. Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to incident and injury free operations with a proven track record in safety and reliability. Must work outside in inclement weather in compact and tight spaces. E&I Tech 5 reports directly to the E&I Lead.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Troubleshoot, perform and document maintenance, calibrate, install, fault diagnosis and repair of electronic, electrical systems, mechanical and pneumatic instruments and controls.
  • Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls. Maintains, repairs or replaces all interior and exterior lighting systems attached to facilities.
  • Maintains, repairs, or replaces all secondary gear to include transformers, switch-gear, circuit breaker panels, switches, receptacles, etc.
  • Troubleshoot, perform and document maintenance, calibrate, install, fault diagnosis and repair of solid state and microprocessor based control equipment including plant communications equipment, distributed control system (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC) and burner management systems.
  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed equipment or processes.
  • Perform EPA/ADEC required analytical system audits and have working knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Maintain DeltaV/AMS DCS systems at a high level of operability and reliability.
  • Calibrate, document and repair O2, H2S, S02 and Sulfur Analyzers.
    • Troubleshoot, perform and document maintenance, calibrate, install, fault diagnosis and repair of:
    • Transmitters of all types – Pressure, Temperature, DP Level, Guided Wave Radar, Flow, etc.  using HART, Analog, and Foundation Fieldbus Protocols
    • Control valves of all types including pneumatic transducers
    • 480V Switchgear and Motor Control Centers Wiring
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Responsible for testing and calibration of monitoring equipment and safety systems. Certify fire and gas alarm systems.   

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience as an Industrial Instrument and Electrical Technician
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience in Instrument Technology (ISA CCST Preferred).
  • Preferred proficiency with Distributed Control System (DCS), programming and troubleshooting programmable logic controls (PLC), control software and human-machine interface systems.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in utilization of National Electrical Code, electrical testing and instrument calibration. (NEC, Class 1, and Div. 1 & 2)
  • Solid knowledge of basic math skills; moderate computer skills with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, CMMS, time entry, etc.
  • Must have knowledge and experience in SIS Testing Procedures.
  • Must have working knowledge of the rules and regulations regarding Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Alaska driver’s license. As an employee, you may be required to drive company vehicles. No CDL required.
  • State of Alaska Electrical License or the ability to acquire within first 90 days of employment
