Salary: $17.00 an hour
Schedule: 4/10 (four days/ten hours) work week
Sign-on Bonus: $1,000 ($250 paid after 30 days of employment and $750 after 6 months of employment)
BRIEF JOB SUMMARY
This is a Full-Time Temporary Deli Clerk/Cashier position.
A Deli Clerk is responsible for preparing a variety of food items and waiting on customers ensuring that the customer receives a quality and consistent product along with friendly and attentive service. The deli clerk is responsible for ensuring there is an adequate quantity of fresh food that is prepared according to established recipes. The Deli Clerk performs all duties while maintaining safe food and handling practices.
A Retail Store Cashier is responsible for providing superior service by engaging customers to ensure an exceptional experience. The RSC is responsible for ensuring the friendly, accurate, and efficient ringing up of customer’s merchandise and fuel. The RSC is responsible for safeguarding Sourdough Fuel Assets according to established procedures and policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

Ensure that customers receive outstanding service by providing a friendly environment which includes greeting customers, engaging them in positive and professional conversation.

Operate cash registers to accurately record all transactions.

Possess the ability to accurately finalize transactions utilizing numerous forms of payments.

Ability to count back change in the event of register failure.

Ensure the sale of age restricted items is performed in a safe and legal manner as outlined in specific training programs.

Maintain clean and orderly check out areas.

Providing fresh food and a friendly environment which includes maintaining food store merchandising and cleaning standards.

Work in deli to assist with product preparation, cleaning or packaging.

Follow all safe food handling procedures.

Maintain clean and orderly prep and storage areas.
-
Maintain hot display cases with appropriate quantities of fresh product.
-
Perform general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping floors, emptying trash cans, cleaning windows and restrooms.

Shoveling snow and general maintenance to ensure safe and clean shopping environment.

Operate and monitor gas pump dispensers.
-
May be called upon by management to assist in cleaning up fuel spills in a safe and approved manner.

Dispensing propane safely using established guidelines.

May stock products in walk in freezers and coolers.

Accurately stock shelves with merchandise.

Complete assigned duties and reoccurring tasks to company expectations.

Maintain professional demeanor at all times.

Positively communicate (verbal and written) with management and staff.

Handle customer complaints to positive resolution.

Demonstrate the ability to be a “Team Player” and to foster a teamwork environment.

Complete all required daily paperwork.

Must be minimum 21 years of age.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent.

Cash register experience preferred; on-the-job training provided.

Previous deli work experience preferred.
Applicant must:

Be 21 years of age to sell alcohol & tobacco according to State of Alaska Alcohol & Tobacco Laws.

Successfully complete the 3-hour “TAP® Certification,” Training for Alcohol Professionals, within 30 days of employment.

Successfully complete the "We Card: A Program to Help Prevent Underage Tobacco Sales” training, within 30 days of employment, before selling any tobacco products.

Successfully complete Propane Training, within 30 days of employment before dispensing propane.

Must successfully complete State food handling course.

Knowledge of customer service, basic math and English.

Operate Point of Sales (POS) software, magnetic card readers or bar code reader equipment, and cleaning equipment.

Ability to work (shifts) varied hours/days including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed; including overtime.
