Petro Star is comprised of several divisions dedicated to meeting the unique challenges of producing and distributing fuel and lubricants throughout Alaska.


In Fairbanks, Petro Star Heating Fuel operates as Sourdough Fuel, serving the needs of customers throughout Interior and Northern Alaska. We're proud to deliver heating fuel to thousands of customers on an automatic delivery system and thousands of others on an "on call" basis. We maintain a fleet of 23 heating fuel trucks for fuel deliveries to homes and businesses, and five large tanker trucks which bring fuel from our refinery to our bulk plant at Sourdough's headquarters.




Under the general direction of the Sourdough Fuel Administration Manager, the Heating Oil Customer Service Representative (CSR) is responsible for providing superior service by engaging customers over the phone and in person to ensure an exceptional experience.  Sourdough Fuel CSR’s provide information in a professional manner to customers and vendors in response to inquiries about Sourdough Fuel heating oil products, services, delivery, and pricing.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Prepare office for opening and closing (doors, safes, cameras, tills, and phones).
  • Organize customer information and files accurately, with keen attention to detail.  Respond to numerous requests simultaneously from both customers and coworkers, prioritizing and multi-tasking each request.
  • Manage large amounts of incoming calls and customer inquiries (up to approx. 100 per day per person during peak season).
  • Listen to customers’ questions and concerns and provide appropriate responses.
  • Provide information about our products and services.
  • Take orders, call in deliveries and furnace repairs, set up new cash accounts, calculate charges, and process payments.
  • Record customer information accurately and make changes to customer accounts.
  • Record details of customer inquiries including bids and/or quotes and distribute information to the appropriate manager.
  • Accurately post payments to customers’ accounts that come in by mail.
  • Reconcile payments in cash batch and count down till to prepare for the next day.
  • File and maintain customer and business records.
  • Maintain confidentiality.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years customer service experience required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (including Excel, Word, and Outlook) and experience working with a computerized billing and inventory system
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.

    This is not a rotational job on the North Slope.  You must live in the Fairbanks/North Pole area or be willing to relocate at your own expense.
