Oversee and direct the day-to-day business activities of the Petro Star Valdez Refinery and the North Pole Refinery to include:

  1. Operation of the refineries, ensuring safety and optimum production, and maintenance/upkeep of the refinery equipment and properties.
  2. Develop and manage refinery operating and capital budgets, personnel, equipment, lands and buildings. 
  3. Identify projects that cost-effectively improve worker safety, refinery operability/reliability, enhance efficiency/lower costs, and increase production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Supervise and provide leadership and guidance to all refinery personnel.
  2. Serve as the principal emergency contact for all issues and incidents arising at the refineries.
  3. Interface with local, State and Federal agencies, as well as Corporate Risk, Legal and HR departments..
  4. Responsible for ensuring refinery compliance with operational, environmental and safety regulations.
  5. Lead all refinery personnel and proactively manage all performance issues, coordinating with appropriate refinery and corporate human resources staff.
  6. Manage the submission and monitoring of refinery operating and capital budgets.
  7. Work closely with the Safety, Mechanical Integrity, Government Compliance personnel, both at the refineries and the corporate office, to ensure safe and fully compliant refinery operations.
  8. Coordinate with the Engineering & Construction Group to develop conceptual design and reasonable estimates for plant turnarounds, capital projects, and new construction.
  9. Direct contracting of necessary manpower for turnarounds, capital projects, and new construction.
  10. Direct plant personnel in specialized tasks according to their individual abilities.

Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Provide supervision and oversight of all employees within the department. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, disciplining, coaching and training, addressing and resolving employee concerns and issues, along with planning, assigning, directing work, and assessing job performance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree in an industrial craft trade or another related field; petroleum or chemical engineering degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of ten (10) years’ supervisory experience in an industrial, continuous process environment.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years as a supervisor in the Petroleum Industry. 
  4. Project management experience is desirable, as well as a degree in sciences, chemistry or engineering, or ten years’ experience in the petroleum industry. 
  5. Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The work environment is in a busy office setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
