The Technical Writer is responsible for writing, editing, formatting, updating, and maintaining a variety of documentation. The position interfaces with all Company departments to gather information, interview subject matter experts, and develop content tailored to specific projects and purposes. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
  • Write, edit, format, update, and maintain documents per Company or client standards.
  • Create and maintain proposal, project, and administrative documentation for all business needs.
  • Prepare proposal responses in coordination with management, estimators, and other personnel.
  • Participate in project and proposal meetings to identify documentation requirements.
  • Interview subject matter experts for required information, verify accuracy, and write narratives.
  • Provide visually creative solutions to communication needs by creating or manipulating charts, graphs, illustrations, photographs, layouts, and other artwork. Strong graphic design skills are highly preferred.
  • Research and report topics as directed.
  • Maintain files of work and revisions.
  • Develop and maintain standard templates.
  • Comply with Company and client policies and procedures.
  • Periodic travel to the North Slope for project research needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support the AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

Associate degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of two years’ experience in technical writing, editing, graphic design, or related field. A comparable certificate and 5+ years’ experience in technical writing, editing, graphic design, or related field. Intermediate may be considered in lieu of a degree. Adobe InDesign, Acrobat, Microsoft Office and other software skills required. Strong graphic design skills are highly preferred. Oil and gas industry experience preferred.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                                
  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.                          
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.
