Responsible for monitoring, controlling and conducting activities that pertain to the safe operation of the refinery, taking corrective action when necessary to ensure that all conditions and operations are in compliance with safety, environmental and operating policies and procedures.

This is not a rotational position and the chosen candidate is required to reside in the greater North Pole, AK area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Complete all required training for Board Operator 
  2. Monitor process lineups; perform tank gauging and data logging.
  3. Monitor and adjusts unit controls to ensure safe and efficient operating conditions.
  4. Observe instruments, gauges, and meters to verify conformance to specified quality and quantity of product and adjust.
  5. Oil spill prevention and cleanup directed by Regulatory and safety policies.
  6. Ensure product quality including sampling and testing of distillate products.
  7. Operates auxiliary equipment and controls multiple processing units during distilling or treating operations.
  8. Repairs, lubricates, and maintains equipment or reports malfunctioning equipment to Lead Operator.
  9. Complete plant improvement and turnaround activities.
  10. Troubleshoot instrumentation and assist in the maintenance and installation of new and existing equipment.
  11. Perform Process Safety Management (PSM) operator compliance functions.
  12. Operate plant equipment: i.e. fork lift, loader, skid steer and boom truck. 
  13. Participate in Process Safety Management OSHA regulated duties.
  14. Generate reports and logs required by SOP's and Federal regulations.
  15. Work scheduled and unscheduled overtime.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Three (3) or more years of experience in petroleum refining. 
  2. Demonstrate ability to be a problem solver. Able to grasp complex issues and apply good problem solving skills to develop recommendations / solutions.
  3. Looks for opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  4. Ability to work closely within a group and with other departments to set priorities, coordinate and follow up on operational objectives.
  5. Ability to multi-task with changing priorities and assignments.
  6. Ability to work with fellow employees and customers with different personalities and traits, demonstrating good judgment and communication.   
  7. Instrumentation - Preventive maintenance / Trouble shooting experience. 
  8. Experience with all process instrumentation, including DCS and emergency systems (HIPPS and ESD devices). 
  9. Experience with Heaters and other fired equipment. (Crude / Asphalt / Hot Oil) - Compliance equipment.
  10. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is required to stand, walk, climb or balance.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must have the ability to climb towers up to 105 foot utilizing ladders and platforms and perform their job at those heights. The employee must be able to perform job duties while wearing either half or full-face respirators. Employee must be able to hear process and system alarms. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes the ability to adjust focus.
