Under the general direction of the Food & Beverage Manager, the primary functions of this position are to greet customers, take orders, serve patrons, and collect payments. Must be willing to work 4 days a week, weekends and holidays, starting pay is $17.69 per hour plus tips and discounts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request.
  • Take orders from patrons; write patrons’ food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computer for transmittal kitchen staff.
  • Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for patrons.
  • Serve food or beverages to patrons and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required.
  • Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total mean costs and sales taxes.
  • Collect payments from customers. 
  • Clean tables or counters after patrons have finished dining.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Strong knowledge, understanding and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
  • High school or equivalent certification.
  • Previous background should include demonstrated ability to deal with the general public.
  • Must be able to work independently and must be willing to work shifts that vary.
  • The ability to speak and understand the Inupiaq language is important and preferred.
