Lead Water/Wastewater Operator - Kuparuk Field Support Services - Camp Maintenance
JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Water/Wastewater Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining two drinking water systems, a wastewater treatment plant and sludge disposal equipment. This position monitors and repairs water and wastewater controls, pumps, valves, piping, and other equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance with ADEC regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Once fully trained and proficient in all systems, this position will be required to step up to cover lead plant operator duties, which includes the oversight of personnel.
- Apply working knowledge of ion exchange water softening, reverse osmosis water treatment and be able to operate conventional surface water systems.
- Apply abilities to operate aerobic conventional wastewater system and keep work leaders informed of changing conditions.
- Must be proficient in laboratory work for typical daily operational control testing for water and wastewater systems.
- Operate and maintain a solid waste incinerator including refractory repair.
- Must be able to be fitted with full face respirator for chemical mixing and other duties.
- Read and interpret water/wastewater schematics.
- Collect ADEC compliance water samples and forward to a certified Lab for analysis.
- This position requires working in confined spaces performing manual labor with a full-face respirator.
- Must display a safety conscious attitude and behavior.
- Assist in all aspects of energy isolation procedures.
- Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.
- Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
- Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A valid (U.S. issued) Driver’s License is required.
- The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 2x2 rotation is required.
- At least four (4) years’ related training and experience is required.
- A current ADEC Water Treatment Level 1 certification is required.
- A current ADEC Wastewater Treatment Level 1 certification is required.
- The ability to obtain ADEC Water Treatment Level 2 (WT2) within 1 year of hire is required.
- The ability to pass the ADEC Water Treatment Level 3 (WT3) certification exam within 2 years of hire and actively work toward full certification (e.g., completing CEUs to fulfill experience requirements) is required.
- The ability to pass the ADEC Wastewater Treatment Level 2 (WWT2) certification exam within 2 years of hire is required.
- Experience operating SCADA control systems and solid waste incinerators is required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is required.
- Strong ability to order, track, and manage materials is required.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Three (3) or more years of experience working in the Oil and Gas industry, North Slope, and/or in the Arctic Environment is preferred.
- A current ADEC Water Treatment Level 3 (WT3) and ADEC Wastewater Treatment Level 2 (WWT2) certification is preferred.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE
While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
