Under the general direction of the Human Resources Business Partners, the Human Resources Specialist provides operational HR support across multiple business segments, ensuring consistent and compliant execution of HR programs and processes. This role serves as a key operational resource — coordinating cross-functional HR initiatives, supporting project delivery, and partnering closely with HR Business Partners to advance people programs and strategic priorities. This is a support-level, non-supervisory role.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
Supports multiple HR Business Partners with day-to-day operational needs, project coordination, and program execution.
Manages HR project timelines, tracks deliverables, and prepares materials to support HR initiatives and priorities.
Serves as the primary contact for HR inquiries, delivering excellent customer service and managing the HR inbox.
Coordinates onboarding, offboarding, job changes, transfers, and new-hire orientation, including all related administrative tasks.
Provides guidance on HR policies and basic employment practices, escalating complex employee relations matters as appropriate.
Supports the development, maintenance, and improvement of HR templates, forms, processes, and standard operating procedures.
Assists with internal communications, including employment policy updates, organizational chart maintenance, and HR program rollouts.
Promotes HR programs that support a positive and productive workplace culture.
Performs data entry and maintains accurate HR records; conducts periodic audits to ensure data integrity.
Maintains employee files, training records, certifications, and acknowledgments in compliance with retention requirements.
Supports benefits administration and leave management, ensuring required documentation is complete and current.
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Assists with internal and external audits and prepares required AAP, EEO, and other recurring compliance reports.
Ensures strict confidentiality of all personnel information and HR records.
Performs additional HR projects and duties as assigned by the HR Business Partners.
LEADERSHIP COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTOR LEVEL

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent HR experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
One to three years of HR experience in an administrative, coordinator, or HR support capacity.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, HR documentation, and recordkeeping requirements.
HR certification (aPHR, PHR, SHRM‑CP) preferred.
Experience managing HR files, audits, and compliance‑related documentation.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through.
Working knowledge of Oracle preferred, or the ability and willingness to quickly learn HRIS platforms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office required, knowledge of Adobe Pro or similar tools preferred.
Strong knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture is required or must be developed soon after hire.
Valid driver’s license required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The work environment is in a busy office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be required to travel periodically to client locations, which could involve overnight or multi-day trips on both small and large commercial aircraft.
