JOB SUMMARY

 

The Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction vehicles and equipment. This position may supervise apprentice workers engaged in vehicle and equipment repair work.

 

  • Inspect heavy vehicles and equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Proficient with CAT ET/ Cummins INSITE/ Volvo Prosis. 
  • Proficient with emission after treatment, DEF dosing systems troubleshooting and repairs. 
  • Prefer minimum 10 years Caterpillar/ Volvo heavy equipment experience and Cummins engine experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with diesel EGR systems on class 8 truck and off road equipment.
  • Specific experience with hydraulic rough terrain cranes from Grove, Link-Belt or Tadano.
  • Repair heavy construction vehicles and equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, motor graders, tractor-trailers, vac trailers, water trucks, scrapers, and other heavy equipment.
  • Proficient in powertrain disassembling/assembling and failure analysis.
  • Adjust, repair, and replace engines, fuel systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, suspension, steering, and transmissions.
  • Disassemble and assemble vehicles and equipment parts using hoists, hand tools, pneumatic and electric tools, and instruments.
  • Proficient with reading and understanding electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Proficient at cutting and installation of equipment and vehicle glass.
  • Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including lubrication and oil changes in accordance with maintenance schedules.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment to diagnose and ensure operating efficiency.
  • Clean and maintain equipment, tools, and the general work area.
  • Prepare and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Supervise apprentice workers engaged in heavy vehicle and equipment repair work.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

         

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years related training and experience required, ten (10) years preferred.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.

 

CERTIFICATIONS

 

  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
  • Valid driver’s license required, valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with current medical card preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                              

 

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing. 
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.                    
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.
  • Required to complete and successfully pass a background check. 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
