The Assistant Manager will manage the operations of the store, schedule working hours, and supervise staff in stocking merchandise, arranging displays, operating checkout stations, and providing customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

1. Supervises the training of new staff to operate cash registers, handle credit card sales, treat customers in a courteous manner, and become familiar with the merchandise and its location within the store.

2. Develops and implements purchasing and inventory control procedures and sequence of operations within the department to optimize workflow.  Reviews inventory accuracy on a weekly basis and checks thoroughly on a monthly basis.

3. Schedules work hours for all personnel with extra personnel assigned to handle peak customer traffic while minimizing total hours worked.

4. Oversees ordering of merchandise from distribution center according to inventory automatic replacement system.  Make periodic physical spot checks of inventory to ensure that computerized records are being maintained accurately.

5. Checks daily sales report and cash receipts.  Makes sure all monies are deposited regularly and reports are sent to the central accounting office in a timely manner.

6. Manages the daily operations of the store under the guidance of the Manager of Power Sports & Auto Parts Division.

7. Deals with supplier when serious variations arise in delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.

8. Assigns staff to store incoming item properly and double check actual quantities of items listed on packing slips.

9. Follows company schedule for special promotion and sales.  Oversees merchandise displays and overall appearance and cleanliness of store.  Makes sure any special price signs are posted and registers have been updated to reflect daily price changes.

10. Monitors activity within the store to observe quality of customer service and provide assistance as required.

Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Supervise all employees within the department. Responsibilities include: interviewing, hiring, disciplining, coaching and training, addressing and resolving employee concerns, planning, assigning, directing work and assessing job performance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

1. Strong knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.

2. Must be able to pass an FBI background check for Federal Firearms Licensing.  

3. High school diploma or equivalent.

4. Two to four years of experience in automotive parts sales or related fields.

5. Minimum two years of experience with retail inventory software.

6. Marketing experience preferred.

7. The ability to speak and understand the Inupiaq language is important and preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The work environment is in a busy office, store, shop, or outside setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, frequently exposed to extreme cold, occasionally exposed to extreme heat conditions, and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft. The employee will work near moving mechanical parts, and high, precarious places.
