JOB SUMMARY

Our Valdez Refinery, operating since 1993, is the newest refinery in the U.S.  Today the refinery processes 60,000‑bbl/day producing ultralow sulfur diesel, heating fuel and jet fuels for Alaska’s Southcentral and Southwest regions.

Refinery – E & I Tech is an hourly position.  Typical shifts are 7 days per week, 12 hours each day, and may rotate on a one-week on/one-week off or two-weeks on/two-weeks off schedule.  Must be willing to work overtime, as well as be willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.  This is a safety-sensitive position.  Candidates must demonstrate personal commitment to incident and injury free operations with a proven track record in safety and reliability.  Must work outside in inclement weather in compact and tight spaces.  E & I Tech reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Must have knowledgeable in NEC, Class 1, and Div. 1 & 2.
  • Demonstrate Proficiency with P & ID’s thought out the refinery.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Know all areas of the Refinery Buildings/Fire systems/Utilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in Instrument Technology (ISA CCST) preferred.
  • Industrial experience preferred.
  • Alaska driver’s license.  As an employee, will be required to drive company vehicles.  No CDL required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
