ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Deliver fuel to home heating oil and propane accounts, retail accounts, commercial accounts and marine fuel, by truck.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment as needed.
  • Assist around the shop and on the dock as needed.
  • Will respond to site responsibilities and emergencies after hours and on weekends, typically on a one week rotation with other drivers.
  • Must learn and become proficient with computers and the auto delivery system.
  • Preform pre and post trip DOT inspections on vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are all in good working order.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, and check that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned for the task.
  • Drive trucks to transport and deliver products or other materials.
  • Pull heating oil and propane delivery hose up to 100 feet thru all weather conditions (i.e. deep snow during winter months in Valdez climate).
  • Properly secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Read bills of lading and work orders to determine assignment details.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.
  • Participate in emergency oil spill response situations.
  • Safely operate forklift and use small hand tools.
  • Participate in all required training and drills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a 24-hour HAZWOPER Certificate.
  • Class B CDL with X endorsement with safe driving record and a CDL Medical Card.
  • Must apply for a TWIC® card (Transportation Workers Identification Credential) within 30 days from date of hire at your own personal expense.
    • It is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002(MTSA) that you maintain a valid TWIC card in order to work at this facility.  You must keep your TWIC card current and valid as a condition of employment

Experience/Requirements:

  • Knowledge of hazardous material, cleanup of oil spills, and petroleum product specifications.
  • Must have basic knowledge of computers.
  • Five years driving experience.
  • Experience in operating in the Alaska environment and local knowledge of Valdez road system is preferred.
  • Must have experience with the safe handling and transportation of petroleum products and propane.
  • Must be familiar with current State and Federal trucking regulations.
  • Great customer service skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job includes the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment is in an outdoor, warehouse setting.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions deep snow, rain and high winds while delivering fuel and propane and may be required to travel for training or work at different locations in small and large commercial aircraft.
