Cost Controls Specialist (Anchorage) - HCC
JOB SUMMARY
The Cost Controls Specialist is responsible for cost analysis and reporting, scheduling, forecasting, billing, vendor management, and monitoring funding. This will require close communication with Finance, as well as the project manager and other technical teams to provide expert project controls support throughout the project lifecycle, as well as other duties assigned.
This project-based position is located in HCC Anchorage office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Develop and implement project controls processes and procedures.
· Daily monitoring of incurred costs to ensure costs are appropriately charged and coding is correct.
· Generate detailed project schedules based on contract documents, customer specifications and work breakdown structure.
· Monitor project progress and performance against established baselines.
· Update project schedules and identify resource requirements in coordination with project management team.
· Identify and analyze project risks and propose mitigation strategies.
· Prepare and present project performance reports to clients and stakeholders.
· Monitor labor reports to ensure accuracy.
· Adjust work breakdown structure required to submit changes to the accounting team.
· Analyze data and provide internal reports to the project management team on the value of work done (actual vs committed costs).
· Provide timely, clear, and concise monthly updates to the project management team on project performance and key financial metrics.
· Perform Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion Costs (EAC) analyses to determine projected profitability.
· Prepare an annual budget for the project based on information received from the technical team.
· Adjust monthly forecasting accordingly based on changes in the project cost / schedule and interaction with the project team.
· Prepare and submit invoices to customers in compliance with the contract agreement.
· Work closely with Accounts Receivable to monitor submitted invoices and receipt of payments.
· Work closely with Accounts Payable to monitor vendor invoices and payments.
· Communicate with vendors, if required, on the project coding details and support documentation for the incurred cost.
· Assist with changing orders and maintaining change order logs.
· Communicate with the Finance Team on pending and approved change orders.
· Provide support with estimate development in response to client RFP’s.
· Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
· Ensure the Project documents comply with quality, management and document control policies and procedures.
· Support the AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Construction Management required.
· Minimum of five (5) years of experience with project controls scheduling, cost analysis and reporting, forecasting, and vendor management.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and developing and maintaining spreadsheets, charts, and curves.
· Proficiency with utilizing Primavera P6 scheduling software.
· Proficiency with other Microsoft Office suite software such as Word, Outlook, Access, and Power Bi.
· Ability to integrate cost and schedule.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.
· Ability to follow procedures and established guidelines a must along with being able to work independently when required and as part of the team.
· Must have good analysis skills and strong attention to detail for reconciling daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
· Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and effectively communicate with key project departments.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
· Valid Driver’s License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· 10 years of related experience – preferably with major projects
· Project Management Professional – Association for the advancement of Cost Engineers and/or Schedulers
· Experience with Oracle
· Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
· Proven ability to perform both Cost and Schedule duties

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE
While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet are free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.
