The Laborer is a skilled position responsible for supporting a variety of construction activities, including concrete mucking, manually grading and fine-tuning fill materials placed by equipment operators, operating small compactors and hand tools, and assisting with general site preparation and cleanup. Additional duties include loading, unloading, and moving materials; handling construction debris and trash; assisting carpenters, equipment operators, and other crew members; setting up and maintaining work areas; performing final cleaning of completed work; and supporting pipe installation, trench work, and basic layout tasks as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Sweeping shop floors, keeping work areas uncluttered at all times.

  • Clean debris/snow from sidewalk, stairs, etc.

  • Moving construction debris and packaging materials to dumpsters

  • Load and unload project materials.

  • Move materials, tools, and equipment to and from various areas on the jobsite.

  • Palletizing materials for shipment and material handling.

  • Assist carpenters/concrete finishers/operators in building activities.

  • Manual grading of fill materials placed by operators.

  • Small compactor operation.

  • Concrete mucking, concrete form cleaning/oiling, concrete reinforcement placement and tying.

  • Periodically inventory supplies and equipment.

  • Must work safely and in a team environment.

  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

  • Ability and willingness to abide by ACHC code of conduct, policies, and procedures.

  • Comply, understand, and support ACHC safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License,

  • 2 years of experience as a laborer

  • Able to lift 50 lbs.

  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment (hand tools, compactors, etc.)

  • Able to work outside in various weather conditions, including cold temperatures.

  • Must be able to take directions when working with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Must be able to perform a variety of different tasks associated with construction and maintenance.

  • Must have basic math skills to make calculations.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and to accurately prepare and maintain daily logs, reports, and other field documentation

  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening, background check, and ongoing random drug testing.

Preferred

  • Valid CDL.

The work environment is in a busy construction setting. The noise level in the work environment usually varies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
