The System Administrator III is a senior technical role responsible for architecting, securing, documenting and optimizing enterprise-scale infrastructure across hybrid cloud and on-premises environments. This role drives strategic technology initiatives, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems including Windows Server estates, Nutanix/VMware/Hyper-V virtualization platforms, Azure cloud services, and enterprise storage solutions. Beyond hands-on technical execution, this position provides mentorship to IT teams, establishes operational excellence standards, and partners with business stakeholders to align infrastructure capabilities with organizational objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
Architect and implement highly available, scalable infrastructure solutions across hybrid Windows Server, virtualization, and Azure cloud environments to support enterprise business operations.
Lead the design the management of enterprise virtualization platforms including Nutanix, VMware vCenter/vSAN, and Hyper-V, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery capabilities, and optimized performance across all clusters.
Administer and optimize Azure cloud services including IaaS, Azure File Services (SMB/NFS), Azure File Sync, and hybrid authentication, ensuring seamless integration with on-premises Active Directory.
Drive strategic technology initiatives by evaluating, piloting, and integrating emerging infrastructure technologies into production environments aligned with business objectives.
Execute enterprise-scale capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle management for servers, storage systems, and virtualization platforms to ensure optimal resource utilization.
Manage complex storage infrastructure including SAN, NAS, backup systems, and cloud storage tiers, ensuring data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery readiness.
Establish and enforce security frameworks including least-privilege access controls, ACL structures, system hardening, and comprehensive audit compliance across all infrastructure systems.
Orchestrate patch management and vulnerability remediation across Windows Server fleets, coordinating OS updates, third-party application patches, and security fixes while minimizing business disruption.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to system administration teams and junior staff, fostering skill development and adherence to enterprise standards.
Serve as technical escalation point for critical infrastructure incidents, leading cross-functional troubleshooting efforts and driving complex issues to resolution.
Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams including security, network, and application groups on integrated technology solutions and infrastructure projects.
Develop and mature operational frameworks, automation strategies, and best-practice standards to enhance team efficiency and service delivery quality.
Maintain and optimize Windows Server core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, AD Connect, and Print Services, ensuring enterprise-wide reliability and performance.
Design and maintain secure file sharing infrastructure with restricted access controls, coordinating FTP services for vendor/partner data exchange with appropriate security protocols.
Execute comprehensive backup operations, ensuring business-critical file systems and data are successfully protected with verified recovery capabilities across disk, and cloud media.
Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including system architecture, configuration standards, procedures, and incident resolutions in accordance with enterprise documentation standards.
Deliver exceptional customer service to internal teams and business partners by communicating technical information clearly, setting appropriate expectations, and providing proactive status updates.
Take ownership of technical challenges from initial report through complete resolution, ensuring thorough documentation and knowledge transfer throughout the incident lifecycle.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Eight (8) or more years of progressive experience in enterprise Windows Server systems architecture, administration, and advanced troubleshooting in large-scale complex environments.
Five (5) or more years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, and managing enterprise virtualization platforms including Nutanix, VMware vSphere/vCenter/vSAN, and Hyper-V in production environments.
Four (4) or more years of demonstrated expertise architecting and administering Microsoft Azure cloud services including IaaS, PaaS, hybrid connectivity, and cloud migration initiatives.
Expert-level knowledge of core infrastructure technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, Group Policy, LDAP, NFS/CIFS file services, and enterprise networking concepts.
Proven experience managing infrastructure supporting mission-critical applications including Oracle, MS-SQL, and other enterprise database platforms.
Strong background in enterprise storage technologies including SAN, NAS, backup/disaster recovery solutions, and storage performance optimization.
Demonstrated ability to establish and enforce standards, best practices, and operational procedures across diverse technology stacks.
Track record of technical leadership including mentoring team members, driving process improvements, and delivering measurable operational excellence.
Skilled in proactive problem management, anticipating infrastructure challenges and implementing preventive measures to minimize business impact.
Excellent communication abilities with proven success translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences including executives, business partners, and technical teams.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and progressive technical experience.
Professional certifications preferred including Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Nutanix Certified
Professional (NCP), Microsoft Azure Administrator, or equivalent industry credentials.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
