Sells ATV or snow machines parts, appliances, electrical, and other parts and equipment in the parts store.  Stocks merchandise, arrange displays, operate checkout stations, and provides customer service as directed by the Manager of the Power Sports Division.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  1. Demonstrates a high level of customer service.
  2. Ascertains make, year, and type of part needed, inspects worn, damaged, or defective part to determine replacement required, or advises customer of part needed according to the description of the malfunction.
  3. Reads catalog, microfiche viewer, or computer for replacement part stock number and price.
  4. Discusses the use and features of various parts.
  5. Receives and fills telephone orders for parts.
  6. Fills customer orders from stock or orders part as requested by the customer.
  7. Prepares sales slips or sales contracts.
  8. Receives payment or obtains credit authorization.
  9. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.
  10. Advises customer on substitution or modification of part when replacement is unavailable.
  11. Examines returned part to determine if defective and exchanges part or refunds money.
  12. Marks and stores parts in the stockroom according to the prearranged system.
  13. Measures engine parts to determine whether similar parts may be machined down or built up to the required size.
  14. Takes inventory of stock.
  15. Sweeps, cleans and dusts sales area as needed to meet Corporation housekeeping standards.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Strong knowledge, understanding, and sensitivity to the Inupiat culture.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Six months of sales experience preferred.
  4. Current Alaska Driver’s License preferred.
  5. The ability to speak and understand the Inupiaq language is important and preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb or balance.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.   Specific vision abilities required by this job includes the ability to use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and adjust focus.

The work environment is in a busy store, office, or outside setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally be exposed to wet or humid conditions, may frequently be exposed to extreme cold, and occasional exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. The incumbent may be required to travel in small and large commercial fixed wing aircraft.
