Responsible for coordinating and executing equipment maintenance activities in support of construction projects. Acts as technical liaison between project teams, maintenance staff, and OEMs/vendors to ensure efficient planning and scheduling of maintenance and repairs for company assets. Focus on the reliability of operational and mobile equipment, as well as shop facilities, office buildings, and yard environment. Proactively leads processes and people through a deep understanding of heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and non-mobile assets. Independently performs duties within the framework of general policies and procedures established by the Equipment Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)

  • Oversee maintenance shops and ensure compliance.
  • Supervises shop/field mechanics and staff. Provides work instructions where needed.
  • Oversee monthly shop audits and annual inspections. 
  • Participates and supports HSE initiatives; proactively leads safety meetings, shares communications, ensures Hazard-Recognition and Safety Observation Program submittal, and leads toolbox meetings. 
  • Leads process and procedures to ensure safe operational state of company assets.
  • Responsible for compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and OSHA regulations involving OTR and aerial equipment.
  • Ensure new hires are trained in company policy. Provide guidance and cross-training opportunities for development. Communicate performance issues and manage improvement.
  • Responsible for the performance of maintenance shops involved in repairs and maintenance.
  • Monitor and review status of repairs. Document completion in computerized software.
  • Assists with parts ordering and procurement as needed. Reviews/approve invoices for payment.
  • Ensure maintenance shops adhere to company HSE policies.
  • Report all incidents immediately and ensure all documentation is completed, signed and dated.
  • Prioritizes communication with project teams throughout the repair process.
  • Maintains a clean and organized yard environment. Support Logistics with loading & unloading.
  • Responsible for inspection of fuel island. Manages fuel usage and dispensing.  
  • Address mechanical issues at facilities/shop in a timely manner.
  • Ensure shop tools and equipment are in safe working condition. Record inspections for compliance.
  • Travel to shop locations and job sites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

  • Ability to adhere to the company code of conduct, policies, and procedures. Willingness to comply, understand, and support the company’s safety culture to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ability to clearly communicate directions and information to workforce and third-party vendors.
  • Ability to work hands-on with maintenance team when needed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with management, project teams, employees, external vendors, and other business entities.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Willingness to respond to changing priorities with a can-do attitude. Displays attention to detail and accuracy in work tasks.
  • Knowledge in repairs to Caterpillar, Kenworth/Peterbilt, Volvo, Roadtec, Genie, and other various OEM equipment.
  • Knowledge in areas of DOT compliance involving over the road (OTR) company assets.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) or more years’ experience working as Heavy Equipment or Truck mechanic.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in supervision of maintenance and repair operations involving heavy equipment, fleet trucks, and non-mobile assets.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) at an intermediate level.

Preferred

  • Class A CDL License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer.
  • Typing and Repetitive Hand Movement: Frequent use of hands to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, and telephones.
  • Walking: Occasional walking.
  • Lifting: Occasionally lifting and carrying light objects, such as files, documents, or office supplies, weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Vision: Adequate vision to read and analyze data on computer screens and printed documents.
  • Hearing: Sufficient hearing to communicate effectively with colleagues, whether in person or on the phone.
  • Talking: Clear and effective verbal communication with colleagues and clients.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is in a busy construction setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually varies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may be required to travel in small and large commercial aircraft.
