Working with a Direct Mentor, learn the operation and maintenance processes of the Alpine Water Utility System composed of Water Treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (AND OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED)

  • Participate, study, and successfully complete State of Alaska Level-1 Operator training and certification in Anchorage; Participate in applicable Operator Training courses and required ConocoPhillips training courses. 
  • Become proficient with monitoring of control panels and both manual and remote-control adjustment of valves and gates to ensure flow of sewage is properly functioning.
  • Perform routine observation and monitor variations in operating conditions. Interprets meter and gauge readings; proficiency in testing and reading results to determine load requirements.
  • Proficiency in starting/stopping pumps, engines, and generators to control flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
  • Self-sufficiency with logbook and detailed documentation of operations, records meter, and gauge readings.
  • Self-sufficiency with collection of water and sewage samples and assisting mentor with laboratory testing. Understanding the safety and sanitization processes of working in close proximity to sewage and wastewater. 
  • Operates and maintains power generating equipment to provide steam and electricity for plant.
  • Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of raw water into treating plant.
  • Only while under the direct supervision and observation of a licensed operator, will assist in the insertion of specified amounts of chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia, and lime into water or adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water adjusts automatic devices that admit specified amounts of chemicals into tanks to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
  • Start agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle to bottom of tank.
  • Turn valves to regulate water through filter beds to remove impurities.
  • Pumps purified water into water mains.
  • Monitor panel board and adjust controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure and water elevation, and distribution of water.
  • Clean tanks and filter beds, using backwashing (reverse flow of water).
  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.
  • Test water samples to determine acidity, color, and impurities.
  • Record data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required. This is an entry-level position, and no prior experience is required. Ideal candidate will obtain Alaska Level-1 Operator training during internship and a North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification. 

 

CERTIFICATIONS
A valid driver's license is required.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                               

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.                         
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.
