The Piping & Mechanical Designer is responsible for generating accurate engineering and construction deliverables for all project phases in a single or multidiscipline project to ensure conformance with approved scope, schedule and budget. This position may provide technical guidance to drafters and assistant designers and may function as a lead designer for some projects.

  • Establish project resource requirements, man-hour estimates, and schedules in coordination with project engineers, discipline lead engineers, and customers.
  • Create, update, and revise drawings using manual techniques and CAD software.
  • Assist in preparing engineering calculations and ensure compliance with engineering and drafting standards.
  • Review drafter and assistant designer work for accuracy and compliance with Company and customer requirements.
  • Generate bill of materials and engineering material requisitions.
  • Ensure all design deliverables are completed in compliance with Company and customer requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to drafters and assistant designers.
  • Prepare designs at the direction of engineers.
  • Prepare material specifications and MTOs and review vendor drawings for accuracy.
  • Interpret scope-of-work into drawing design.
  • Ability to generate mechanical/piping drawing packages from initial design layout to as-builts.
  • Assist the lead designer in establishing design criteria for all assigned projects.
  • Must understand and perform design calculations and apply generally accepted industry codes and standards.
  • Ensure personnel comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and education in AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.


  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum ten years related experience in a progressively responsible position required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD 3-D modeling required.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team

  • Associate degree or technical school certification in design preferred.
  • Experience in oil and gas industry preferred
  • GIS experienced preferred.

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:                                                               

  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.                         
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.
