ASRC Builders seeks a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) who has a proven record of experience with multiple types of complex federal construction projects, including the US Army Corps of Engineers vertical projects. Relocation is not available, however, lodging and meals will be provided. Residents of Alaska may be given preference.
 
All candidates must undergo a comprehensive national background check to obtain access to the installation. Do not apply unless you clearly understand the position, minimum requirements, and the work location.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (and other duties as assigned)
 
The desired candidate should have demonstrated training and certification in the quality control and safety fields working with multiple management levels.  The SSHO will be responsible for:

  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926, 1910, and USACE EM-385-1-1 regulatory requirements as it pertains to heavy industrial or commercial construction
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections, and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections
  • Implement and enforce accepted Accident Preventions Plans (APP) and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHAs)
  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution
  • Ensure sub-contractor and vendor compliance with safety and health requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must have OSHA Construction or General Industry 30 hour card, or complete within 30 days of offer
  • Construction Safety Hazard Awareness Training for Contractors (US Army Corps of Engineers) or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Safety/wellness or construction management degree preferred; minimum high school diploma or equivalent required; Relevant and recent experience may be considered in place of a degree
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in commercial or federal construction environment, including five years as Site Safety Health Officer or equivalent title
  • Demonstrated knowledge of site work, concrete, conventional steel erection, mechanical and electrical work is required
  • Individual must be able to demonstrate both the knowledge to perform SSHO functions and the ability to identify means and methods to promote effective safety culture in a highly complex project setting
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to proficiently use basic PC applications such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the actions, values, and behaviors that constitute a strong safety culture, and integrate these values within an existing corporate business and Inupiat Culture
